Catacombs of Paris

An ossuary below the streets of the 14th arrondissement.

The Catacombs are old quarry tunnels where remains from overcrowded cemeteries were moved from the late 18th century. Visitors descend about 130 steps and walk a route of roughly 1.5 kilometres past walls of bones.
